Kaprije is one of the Croatian islands with no cars, so you can freely enjoy the untouched nature and the sound of the sea and waves. It was named after the Mediterranean plant ‘’kapar’’ (whose buds are used as a spice) and which was probably abundant at the time island settlement.

The first inhabitants of the island came in the 16th century to work on the olive groves and vineyards for the Sibenik noble families who had had estates here. The Church of the St. Peter dates back from that period. Later, the island served as a haven for refugees from the mainland due to the Turkish threats.

The island has about several natural bays, and in one of them the port of Kaprije is located, which is also the only inhabited settlement on the island. There are hundreds of residents who are engaged in fishing, olive oil and wine. The village has a shop and several restaurants where you can relax and taste the local fish and seafood specialties. There is a beautiful pebble beach in the bay next to Kaprije, and if you want privacy, you can head for the beach near the bay Portić on the south side of the island.

Divers can enjoy exploring the underwaters and they will be particularly interested to see one of the most attractive wrecks in the Adriatic: the warship Francesca da Rimini from 1944 which is located at a depth of 38-50m on the north side of the island.

It is possible to arrive on the island Kaprije by ferry from Sibenik. As the island has no traffic, your vehicle can be left at the port in Sibenik.
