      Introduction:

      - Enjoy serenity of the location on the most distant islet of the small archipelago in front of Rovinj
      - Escape the hectic pace of modern life with a Robinson Crusoe adventure
      - Contemplate the finer elements of life, such as nature and humanity
      - Immerse yourself in the gentle summer breeze caressing your cheeks

      Lighthouse summary:
Sv. Ivan lighthouse, built in 1853, is located on the most distant islet of the small archipelago in front of Rovinj. This islet is actually a 70 x 50 meter rock with a relatively easily accessible shore and shallow waters, which makes Sv. Ivan an ideal destination for families with children that would like to spend a Robinson Crusoe type of holiday. Words cannot do justice to the feeling of a gentle breeze caressing your cheeks, bringing with it fresh salt-scented air as you gaze into pristine waters, while sun and clouds conspire to create turquoise reflections. Once you reach the right mood of contemplation, the minutes and hours will flow by.

      Details of the lighthouse:
The 23 m high lighthouse tower offers fabulous views, while there are two four-bed apartments in the lighthouse building. The islet has a berth where smaller boats can be pulled out with the help of a hoist. Due to splendid underwater sites and numerous species of fish, this destination is very popular for those looking to get away from the everyday rut, as well as for those that like to go fishing and diving.

      Beaches:

Rock slabs on Sv. Ivan are ideal for suntanning. There are two beaches with shallow waters on opposite sides of the islet. We advise swimmers to be cautious and not to swim far away from the coast due to changing currents and bottle-nosed dolphins that are a protected species.

      Underwaters:
Depths of the sea that surrounds Sv. Ivan vary from ten meters to forty meters where the seabed is rocky and rich in flora and species of fish. Sv. Ivan is perfectly suited for underwater and sports fishing.

      Points of interest
Sitting up high on the cliffs before plunging down to the sea, with centuries-old stone and buildings towering several stories above well-worn cobblestone streets nearly devoid of cars. And it’s no wonder — driving here isn’t for the faint of heart. Even better, since this is a place that begs to be explored on foot. The wreck, discovered in 1958, now provides divers with one of Europe’s most fascinating sites, and a popular for trips from Rovinj. The diving center based on Crveni otok, offers escorted dives to the old ship, as well as courses for children and beginners. On the other hand, Sea kayaking is the perfect way to discover the unspoiled, mainly uninhabited islands that dot the waters around Rovinj. Half-day tours start out at Punta Corrente park just outside town and take in nearby Crveni otok and the Sv Ivan islands. Also known as Zlatni Rt, Puta Corrente Forest Park is a lovely place for a walk, bike ride, or swim. It was founded by Austrian admiral in 1890 who chose Crveni Otok as a perfect place for his summer house. 10 species of cypress trees dot the park that also boast some of the most spectacular views of the islands off the shore of Rovinj. Fourteen islands make up the Rovinj archipelago. Each one is full of lush, green grass and a popular destination to visit. Consider St. Andres Islands or St Catherine islands, both situated just off the coast of the old town. These beautiful islands take between five and fifteen minutes to get to by boat. For a small city , there’s a lot to see and things to do in Rovinj — restaurants serving fresh seafood and local wine, crystalline waters to dive in, outdoor markets to explore, and hours to wile away in cafes doing nothing but sipping wine or coffee and watching the people go by.

      Wine & Dine
Rovinj cuisine is based, of course, on the wide selection of fish and seafood, as well as on traditional fine food such as prosciutto, truffles, asparagus, ombolo (dried pork loin), sausages, boscarin (Istrian ox meat) all together refined by delicious olive oil and accompanied by excellent white and red wines.

      Fun facts
Legend has it that a Venetian doge was navigating in the direction of Rovinj in unfavorable weather conditions. His crew spotted the dangerous cliffs of Sv. Ivan on time and changed their navigation route. The doge vowed to Sv. Ivan (St. John) to light him a candle as high as a cathedral tower if he made it safe and sound to Rovinj. After having arrived safely to Rovinj, the doge forgot about his vow. Since he was in a hurry back to Venice he did not even light a little candle on Sv. Ivan. He remembered that he had not kept his promise several months later when he found himself in the middle of a tempest in the same area. His ship was thrown into the cliffs of Sv. Ivan and the whole crew along with the doge disappeared in the stormy sea.

Wonderful stay on little island. Just swimming and reading. Friendly lighthousekeeper with his dog as company. Perfect for coming down and relaxing.
Better inform the guests beforehand, that you have to bring drinking-water to the island. Apart from that, everything was fine, accomodation, transport, etc.
