      Note:

Since there is no bank machine on the island of Lastovo, we recommend that you withdraw money in Split or on the island of Korcula before heading for the lighthouse.

      Underwaters:

There are numerous species of fish and crabs in the deep waters beneath the picturesque cliffs on the southern side of the cape.

      Introduction:
In the middle of the southern side of the island of Lastovo, at the entrance to the bay of Skrivena Luka lies the Cape of Struga where the lighthouse of the same name with a capacity of 15 people was built in 1839.

      Details of the lighthouse:

Lastovo is a scarcely inhabited island 55 NM from Split and Dubrovnik, while its archipelago consists of over 40 islands, islets and cliffs. Due to its distance from the mainland, it seems as though it emerges from the blue of the sea and sky. The lighthouse lies at the height of 70 m, at the very edge of a steep cliff that offers a splendid view of the open sea.

Magnificent views and easy access to the sea through the pine woods on the northern side of the lighthouse make Struga a very popular tourist destination.

Three generations of the Kvinta family have been living on the island as lighthouse keepers. In the past, their only preoccupation was to take care of the lighthouse, while nowadays they also take care of guests who stay in the lighthouse.

While the head of the family Jure Kvinta organizes transfer of guests arriving without car or goes fishing, Mrs. Nada Kvinta gladly prepares fish for dinner. Of course, if you would like to join Jure Kvinta when he goes fishing, he will be happy to take you along.

If you would like to get to know the entire island of Lastovo during your stay in Struga, we recommend walks along well-kept trails that go on for kilometers. They will take you, for example, to places like Lastovo, known for its specific architecture (particularly chimneys), or to the beautiful bay of Zaklopatica and the bridge on its southern side that connects the island of Lastovo to the island of Prezba.

      Beaches:

A concrete swimming area with deep waters that belongs to the lighthouse can be found behind the lighthouse and is surrounded by pine trees. You can also go swimming on splendid rocky beaches in some of the numerous secluded bays where waters are relatively shallow. The beaches are suitable for children.

      Transfer:

The island of Lastovo can be reached by ferry or catamaran from Split. Boats arrive in the port of Ubli, some 20 km from the lighthouse. The ferry trip takes about 4 hours and 45 minutes, while the catamaran trip takes an hour less. There is a gravel road leading to the lighthouse.

If you are traveling without car, transfer to the lighthouse can be arranged with the lighthouse keeper at extra charge.

      Supplies:

Supply of provisions is possible because the lighthouse is connected to other places on the island by road. Lastovo is 12 km away, while the port of Ubli is 15 km away. If you are traveling without car, the lighthouse keeper can purchase provisions if necessary. There are several restaurants on the island, but if you would like to taste wonderfully prepared fish, it can be arranged with the Kvinta family.

      Interesting to know:

An unbelievable, yet true story is about a giant lobster. The giant lobster weighted just under eighteen kilograms and was caught in a fishing net at the end of the nineteenth century. The fishermen sent it to the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph, who thanked them by sending them a large trunk of coffee and sugar. In the 1950s, coral divers pulled out a coral weighing 45 kilograms at the same location by using a special device. According to records, this is the largest coral tree that has ever been pulled out of the Adriatic.

        stunning views peaceful setting
When we booked a lighthouse for our honeymoon we expected beauty and solitude and we got more than we could have imagined. It was so lovely and within walking distance of two excellent restaurants. Kitchen was well stocked with cooking supplies for when we wanted to cook at home. It truly felt like we were residents of Lastovo. We highly recommend hiking up to the heliodrome for outstanding views of the lighthouse.
Adrigate assured us that the lighthouse keeper would give us a ride from the port (Ubli) to the accommodations multiple times. When we arrived and called the number provided the keeper was offended that we called for a ride. It was late to the point were no taxi could be found and we had to get a ride (2 hours after we arrived) from two residents having a beer at the little bar at the port. Only because the nice gentlemen took pity on us did we not have to walk miles with our luggage. After this encounter the keeper was pretty cold to us as it seemed we had offended him.

A very special place and an experience for a life time. Wind, the stars and an overwhelming view to the Adriatic sea makes you feel, like being on a other planet.

Lonely Lighthouse, very nice guard. Lastovo is an very hilly Island, therefore you should have an car with you, or you should be fanatic in Walking or Mountainbiking to reach next beaches or villages. I have been there Septembre 2015 , Water und Weather warm and good.
