In the middle of the southern side of the island of Lastovo, at the entrance to the bay of Skrivena Luka lies the Cape of Struga where the lighthouse of the same name with a capacity of 15 people was built in 1839.

      Details of the lighthouse:
Lastovo is a scarcely inhabited island 55 NM from Split and Dubrovnik, while its archipelago consists of over 40 islands, islets and cliffs. Due to its distance from the mainland, it seems as though it emerges from the blue of the sea and sky. The lighthouse lies at the height of 70 m, at the very edge of a steep cliff that offers a splendid view of the open sea.

Magnificent views and easy access to the sea through the pine woods on the northern side of the lighthouse make Struga a very popular tourist destination.

Three generations of the Kvinta family have been living on the island as lighthouse keepers. In the past, their only preoccupation was to take care of the lighthouse, while nowadays they also take care of guests who stay in the lighthouse.

While the head of the family Jure Kvinta organizes transfer of guests arriving without car or goes fishing, Mrs. Nada Kvinta gladly prepares fish for dinner. Of course, if you would like to join Jure Kvinta when he goes fishing, he will be happy to take you along.

If you would like to get to know the entire island of Lastovo during your stay in Struga, we recommend walks along well-kept trails that go on for kilometers. They will take you, for example, to places like Lastovo, known for its specific architecture (particularly chimneys), or to the beautiful bay of Zaklopatica and the bridge on its southern side that connects the island of Lastovo to the island of Prezba.

A concrete swimming area with deep waters that belongs to the lighthouse can be found behind the lighthouse and is surrounded by pine trees. You can also go swimming on splendid rocky beaches in some of the numerous secluded bays where waters are relatively shallow. The beaches are suitable for children.

There are numerous species of fish and crabs in the deep waters beneath the picturesque cliffs on the southern side of the cape.

      Interesting to know:
An unbelievable, yet true story is about a giant lobster. The giant lobster weighted just under eighteen kilograms and was caught in a fishing net at the end of the nineteenth century. The fishermen sent it to the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Joseph, who thanked them by sending them a large trunk of coffee and sugar. In the 1950s, coral divers pulled out a coral weighing 45 kilograms at the same location by using a special device. According to records, this is the largest coral tree that has ever been pulled out of the Adriatic.

I had a wonderful, restful stay at the lighthouse in the very quiet bay of Scrivena Luka. My apartment had beautiul sea and sunset views from every window, surrounded by the sounds of the sea, birds and sweet scent of a fig tree outside one window. Being high on the hill there was nearly always some breeze or wind to cool down the apartment. The swimming spot at the bottom of the path is beautiful. shaded by trees and the water very clear. Great for snorkelling and good exercise walking up and down the hill. I didn''t have a car so took a taxi into Lastovo town to buy groceries for the week. Scrivena Luka has two restaurants. One only open in the afternoon/evening and one open all day servicing the boats in a sheltered bay where you can have coffee, breakfast, lunch, dinner (3km walk from the lighthouse). Mladen the lighthouse keeper and his wife were lovely. I would happily stay here again and for longer

We are a couple from NL and this is our first time in Croatia. Really love our stay and can recommend to everyone. We stayed in the lighthouse and had amazing time there! It was clean and has everything you''d need. It is located on the furthest point in the island but if you have car then you have no problem. We didn''t bring a car with us and quite happy we didn''t! We got to explore our surrounding areas (beaches, cave, hike) which otherwise we would have missed. We got around either by taxi (owned by a very nice guy, available 24 hours if you make a reservation) or on foot. The lighthouse keeper, Mladen, is a very nice guy, don’t intrude but you can always chat with him when he’s around. He showed us the lenses and how the light works and we had to follow certain procedures when we climb up to the tower. All in all, we loved our time in the island (and in the lighthouse specifically) and wished we had stayed longer than 4 nights.
