Rakalj [ Istria ]

Rakalj - INFO

Rakalj Rakalj is a small town on the western coast of the Rasa Bay, on the eastern coast of Istria, 12 km northeast of Marcana and 30 kilometres of Pula. For the first time Rakalj was mentioned in 1190 and in the past it used to be famous for the traditional Istrian pottery, a tradition that one tries to revive for tourist purposes. Other traditional occupations included seafaring and fishing. Its cultural and historical heritage, as well as ethnographic collections in the birth house of the scientist and writer Mijo Mirkovic (Mate Balota), represents major attractions for visitors. The town and its surrounding have rich flora and fauna, providing excellent hunting and hiking opportunities as well fine prerequisites for a more intense development of country tourism.
Rakalj gives the opportunity to enjoy silence, sea, sun and peace away from the rush while small hidden beaches (which are 3 km away) offer you freedom, privacy and intimacy.
