Are you planning to visit Croatia and wondering how much you will really spend? Here’s an overview of the actual prices you can expect during your stay in this beautiful country.

1. Accommodation

Accommodation prices vary depending on location and type of accommodation. In larger cities such as Zagreb, Split or Dubrovnik, hotel accommodation can be more expensive, while apartments and private accommodation are often offered at more affordable prices. The less hyped and popular the location, the more affordable the accommodation there will be for every budget.

For example, the hinterland of Split, Šibenik, Zadar, Crikvenica or the interior of Istria will be cheaper than the city center itself, as you can see on the Adriagate accommodation pages.

*Pro-tip: when looking for accommodation or even plane tickets, switch your Internet browser to incognito mode, as this will prevent dynamic pricing.

Another useful tip is to try to catch first-minute and early bird discounts. We recommend that you start looking for accommodation as early as possible, because first-minute discounts for the summer season usually last until the end of March. If you don’t catch them by then, follow the discounts and promotions that last the whole year. For example, on the Adriagate website, we often have short-term promotional benefits or gift vouchers from 5% to 15%, so you have to follow and be careful not to miss out. If you are one of those more casual and relaxed travelers, then you can also rely on last-minute discounts.

Some of our guests prefer to travel “budget-friendly”, and that is precisely why we have separated our “best value for money” accommodations on a special page.

2. Food

Hrvatske delicije

Croatia offers a rich gastronomic offer, and meal prices depend on the location. Restaurants in tourist areas can be a bit more expensive, while smaller local restaurants will provide delicious meals at decent prices.

Sometimes it is an even more financially acceptable option to cook in accommodation, if you will be staying in private accommodation. Cooking is certainly more affordable than a restaurant, and not only will it be cheaper, but you can also visit the local market, shops and walk among the local population.

Also, in Croatia in the cities you can find “fast food”, smaller restaurants with fast food that is much cheaper than that in restaurants, but just as tasty. There you can taste simpler meals such as sandwiches, fries, tortillas, chicken or čevapcic.

*Tip for tip: tips in Croatia are not included in the price nor are they strictly defined. If you want to reward someone for their service or work, you can leave them a classic 10% of the total bill or less.

3. Transport

Rent-a-car

Transportation prices vary depending on the means of travel. Public transport is a bit cheaper, but if you still want to have more freedom of movement, on our site you can find decent car rental prices that vary from smaller and cheaper to slightly larger and more expensive cars. You can see all the details about renting a car in Croatia here: rent-a-car »

If you want to visit some Croatian islands, you will have to go by ferry or catamaran. The ferry ride to the island is significantly cheaper per person, and if you want to take the car as well, you will still have to spend a little more money. That’s why rent-a-scooter or rent-a-bike is a popular option on Croatian islands, where you can have an unforgettable experience of driving and exploring the island for very little money.

4. Attractions

Visiting cultural and natural attractions can add cost to your trip. Entrance fees to museums, national parks or historic sites vary, but many destinations offer various discounts or package deals.

You can always use the internet or a manual to see the cities and learn about the interesting things, but if you want to go sightseeing with a licensed guide, we recommend that you take a look at the offer of free walking tours around the city. You will reward the guides with a tip at the end of the tour, and we are sure that you will learn a lot about everything you are interested in about the destination.

In general, Croatia offers a wide variety and something for every budget. Plan carefully and research local options to enhance your experience at realistic prices.
