Tkon - island Pasman

Tourist destination info Tkon - island Pasman

Tkon is an ancient fishing place located on the southern part of the island of Pasman. It was formed in 1997 and the original village was located 2km to the south, but not along the coast. It was first mentioned by Konstantin Porfirogenet in his records from the 10th century. The locals have been involved in agriculture, cattle breeding and fishing. The most important activity was the harvest of clams in the Pasman canal. Tkon contains numerous historical sites such as the parish church of St. Toma (mentioned in the 11th century, built in 1742, restored in 1938), Church of Our Lady of Seven Sorrows (built in the 18th century, located on the Kalvarija hill), St. Antun the Loner (built in the 17th century, with the legacy of the local Glagolitic A. Palaskov 1672) and the Benedictine convent of St. Kuzme and St. Damjan ( located on the Cokovac hill, it is a cultural monument of the zero category, built by the Biograd bishop Teodorik in 1059 on the foundations of an early byzantine fort and an old Christian church). The beaches on the northern part of the island are pebbly. Some of the most famous beaches are Vruljica and Juznja. The beaches in Tkon are a popular tourist destination for the visitors from Biograd, who come daily by ferries. Sports and recreation enthusiasts can enjoy cycling, sailing, diving, running, soccer, basketball, volleyball, windsurfing and countless other activities. Like in any other Dalmatian town, Tkon also organizes numerous festivities, the most famous of which are “Latinsko idro” – that’s when the sailing and rowing race is organized, as well as the “fishermen night”, organized since 1986 – that’s when you can enjoy roasted fish, shells, red wine and numerous other homemade specialties while listening to music or dancing. Countless games and competitions are organized, as well, such as the boat race, bowling tournament and the lottery. Gastronomy enthusiasts can enjoy domestiv specialties in restaurants “Andelo”, “Maestral”, “Sovinje”, as well as in the tavern “Klanac”.
