The town Korcula is situated on the eastern part of the island and it is one of the most preserved Mediterranean medieval towns in Croatia. It is also a traditional tourist and cultural centre. Korcula is made of stone and it is the native town of the world famous traveller and researcher Marko Polo. Korcula is known for its picturesque squares and medieval atmosphere; it is called "little Dubrovnik". The beaches in Korcula are mostly gravel and stony, and only a few kilometres away, in the tourist village of Lumbarda, you can find beautiful sandy beaches that are perfect for children. There is a large offer of accommodation in hotels, private apartments and campsites. Korcula is a town where middle aged people can enjoy a peaceful vacation with numerous cultural manifestations and young people enjoy cocktails and parties all night long. It is important to mention that there are excellent car-ferry services with the peninsula Peljesac, and the tourist village Orebic. The ferry ride takes only 10-15 minutes.
