Jelsa is situated in a bay on the northern side of the island Hvar’s central part. It is shaped around five squares and it consists of two main parts: Vela Banda on the southern coast and Mala Banda on the northern. Its bays and capes are very suitable for bathing and sun taning. Tourists are attracted to the sandy, gravel and rocky beaches and a dense, pine wood. The most popular beaches are:
Mina - the most popular sandy beach, situated 500 m from the centre of Jelsa. It is perfect for children
Grebišće - a popular sandy bay situated 1,5 km from Jelsa. It consists of two bays: Vela Grebišća and Mola Grebišća
Zenčišća - a bathing place, 3 km to the east of Jelsa
Vala Sv. Luke - a gravel beach, 4 km to the east of Jelsa
Bočić - a bathing place with concrete and rocky panels, it is situated 300 m from the centre of Jelsa
Soline - a peninsula, approximately 6 km from Jelsa, there are many small gravel bays on its southern side, while rocky panels dominate its northern side
Zečevo - a small island, approximately 20 min ride with a small boat
Mala stiniva - a gravel bay with beautiful crystal sea, it is 30 min of drive from Jelsa. It is known for the vertical rocks that surround it.
Jelsa is rich with vegetation which is rare in Dalmatia, and it has been known for its quality red wine since long ago.
