Don’t miss to visit wine and food fair “Vinski podrum” in Split which is taking place in May. It is organized by Slobodna Dalmacija and Dalmatian winemakers association “Wine of Dalmatia” and sponsored by Croatian tourist board. Taste the best sorts of white and red wines, sparkling and dessert wines from islands of Hvar, Brač, Krk and regions of Pelješac, Primošten, Omiš, Istria and Slavonia. Apart from wine tasting, you will have the opportunity to buy wine at affordable prices as if it’s sold directly from the winemakers’ cellars. Producers of olive oil, cheese, prosciutto and other tasty delicacies will also present their products. Visitors can also participate in several interesting workshops and lectures.
Wine and food fair take place in authentic ambient of the Cellars of Diocletian’s palace. Once upon a time they were probably used to store wines which gave the idea for the name of the fair. The cellars were built in order to raise the south, residential area, and align it with the other areas of the palace. The complex contains numerous halls under palace which are connected with corridors. It is the best preserved antique complex of this type. The cellars together with the Diocletian’s palace are under UNESCO protection since 1979. Today the halls are used for exhibitions, concerts and fairs.
