Travel is a time to relax, explore, and create memories. The sea, the sun, new places, local food, and those days when your biggest concern is finding the perfect spot for a swim.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

But every place we visit is also someone\u2019s home. That is why, even while on holiday, it is worth thinking about how we can enjoy a destination while helping to preserve it.<\/p>\n

The good news is that responsible travel does not require major changes. Most of the time, a few small habits are enough to make a difference without affecting the quality of your holiday.<\/p>\n

1. Water is precious, especially in summer<\/h2>\n

During the hottest months, water consumption increases significantly in tourist destinations. That is why it is worth paying attention to everyday habits we often take for granted.<\/p>\n

Shorter showers, turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, and reusing towels are simple ways to reduce unnecessary water consumption.<\/p>\n

And don\u2019t worry \u2013 your holiday will still feel like a holiday. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

2. The air conditioning doesn\u2019t need to run while you\u2019re at the beach<\/h2>\n

There is nothing better than returning from the beach to a pleasantly cool apartment. However, there is no need for the air conditioning to cool an empty space all day.<\/p>\n

Before leaving, close the windows and doors and turn off or adjust the air conditioning. When using it, try to avoid a very large difference between the indoor and outdoor temperatures.<\/p>\n

Lower energy consumption is better for the environment and for the accommodation you are staying in.<\/p>\n

3. Separate your waste whenever possible<\/h2>\n

In many Croatian destinations, separate containers are available for paper, plastic, glass, and general waste.<\/p>\n

If they are available, use them.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You do not need to spend your holiday studying the local waste management system \u2013 simply follow the labels on the bins and separate what you can.<\/p>\n

Most importantly, never leave rubbish behind on beaches, promenades, or in nature.<\/p>\n

4. A reusable water bottle and shopping bag always come in handy<\/h2>\n

Single-use plastic can quickly add up during a trip: water bottles, shopping bags, cups, cutlery\u2026<\/p>\n

A reusable water bottle and a fabric shopping bag take up almost no space in your luggage but can replace many disposable items during a week-long holiday.<\/p>\n

It is a small change and an easy habit to take home with you.<\/p>\n

5. A car is not always the best way to discover a destination<\/h2>\n

If the beach, town centre, or restaurant is only a ten-minute walk away, consider leaving the car parked.<\/p>\n

Walking or cycling is often one of the best ways to really experience a destination. Along the way, you might discover a small bay, a local bakery, a quiet street, or a restaurant you had not planned to visit.<\/p>\n

For longer distances, check whether public transport or another local transport option is available.<\/p>\n

6. Choose local<\/h2>\n

One of the best parts of travelling is discovering local flavours and meeting local people.<\/p>\n

Buy fruit at the market, try locally produced olive oil, visit a small traditional restaurant, bakery, or family-run business. Instead of buying another generic souvenir, you may find something that was actually produced in the area you are visiting.<\/p>\n

This gives you a more authentic experience while also supporting the people who live and work in the destination throughout the year.<\/p>\n

7. Photograph nature, but leave it where it belongs<\/h2>\n

A shell from the beach or a plant beside a walking trail may seem like a harmless souvenir, but nature is best left untouched.<\/p>\n

Especially in national parks, nature parks, and other protected areas, follow marked trails and respect local rules.<\/p>\n

A photo will remind you of the place just as well, while nature remains preserved for those who visit after you.<\/p>\n

8. Respect the place where you are staying<\/h2>\n

A tourist destination is not just a backdrop for a holiday. It is a place where people work, rest, raise their families, and live throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Respect house rules, neighbours, quiet hours, and shared spaces.<\/p>\n

The same applies to your accommodation. Treat it the way you would want someone to treat your own home.<\/p>\n

Responsible travel doesn\u2019t mean enjoying your holiday less<\/h2>\n

We do not need to travel perfectly or count every drop of water we use. The goal is simply to become a little more aware of our everyday habits.<\/p>\n

Turning off the lights before leaving, carrying a reusable water bottle, picking up your rubbish after a day at the beach, or having dinner at a local restaurant are small actions that barely change the way we enjoy our holiday.<\/p>\n

But when many travellers do the same, their impact is no longer so small.<\/p>\n

So on your next trip, enjoy the sea, explore new places, taste local specialities, and create wonderful memories.<\/p>\n

And try to leave the destination at least as beautiful as you found it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n
