Babino Polje is the central and largest settlement on the island of Mljet, 6 km southeast of the Sobra harbour, 18 km southeast of Polaca. It lays in the field of the same name, at the foot of Veliki Grad (Big Town) (514 m), the highest peak of the island. The surroundings are covered with underbrush and pine forests. Arable land around the village is cultivated, comprising of gardens, olive-groves and vineyards. In the vicinity of the village (4 km) are several caves: the 100-m long Movrica with nice stalactites and stalagmites, the 400-m long Ostasevica, etc. There are also hunting opportunities on the island. Beaches are provided in nearby Sobra (6 km from Babino Polje). The opposite coast on the southern side is characterized by cliffs and coves with nice beaches (Sutmiholjska, Brnjestrova). The accommodation is private, and you can find it in rooms and apartments.
